I read and thoroughly enjoyed With the Old Breed I thought it was of the best World War II remembrances I have ever read I bought China Marine after I finished Old Breed The book is fine It s a uick read It s well written But it seems like it should have been the last two chapters to the earlier book It s it interesting in places but not sure the author s experiences in China can carry a whole book

I had read the authors first book With the Old Breed and thought it was the best book of its kind I had ever read so naturally I had to read China Marine This one seemed shorter than the first and I read the whole thing uickly and was not disappointed I think Sledgehammer had a uniue perspective on his time in China as well as time to reflect on not just what was happening around him but also within him as a result of witnessing the horrors of war This comes out very well in China Marine as Sledge describes his experiences in context of where he has been and where he knows he needs to go back to a normal civilian life One thing that stood out to me was the authors appreciation for everything around him The beauty of China his fascination with the people and the good friends he made while thereThe epilogue was my favorite part as I thought it was the most personal and provided additional insight into the mind of a great man He talked about moving on but also the lasting impacts of the war His disdain for people complaining about trivial unimportant things and what worked for him to accept not forget what he had been through Tek Şişman Beyniniz kind I had ever read so naturally I had to read China Marine This one seemed shorter than the first and I read the whole thing uickly and was not disappointed I think Sledgehammer had a uniue perspective on his time in China as well as time to reflect on not just what was happening around him but also within him as a result of witnessing the horrors of war This comes out very well in China Marine as Sledge describes his experiences in context of where he has been and where he Tourniuet knows he needs to go back to a normal civilian life One thing that stood out to me was the authors appreciation for everything around him The beauty of China his fascination with the people and the good friends he made while thereThe epilogue was my favorite part as I thought it was the most personal and provided additional insight into the mind of a great man He talked about moving on but also the lasting impacts of the war His disdain for people complaining about trivial unimportant things and what worked for him to accept not forget what he had been through

Sledge READ & DOWNLOAD ✓ China Marine: An Infantryman's Life after World War II While haunted by shadows of close combat Through the discipline of writing and the study of biology he shows how hecame to terms with the terrifying memories that had plagued him for yearsPoignant and compelling China Marine provides a frank depiction of the real costs of war emotional and psychological as well as physical and reveals the enduring bond that develops between men who face the horrors of w. Eugene Sledge doesn t use overly complicated writing techniues he tells his story in the most honest uncomplicated down to earth way possible This simplicity is what made his first book With The Old Breed such an interesting readHowever with the brutality and horror of the pacific theater s bloodiest battles behind him Sledge s thoughts on post war China are bluntly much less compelling than his combat experiences While written in the same signature manner China Marine is overshadowed by its predecessorAs a book of post war china and the only one of the post war Marine corps the book is a history that merits full marks As a general read especially for those who have read With the Old Breed it is simply boring With some memorable moments including a Japanese war dog attack and an uncomfortable reunion with Mac Sledge s hated platoon leader from Okinawa I push my score up from two stars to three I would not read it again
